How to Make Instant Dry Ice Cream
We are going to make dry ice, ice cream, which every kid loves. Ben and Jerry, eat your heart out. This is a little bit cheaper than Ben & Jerry’s. You can make it, it’s a great activity that you can make with your kids.
The very first thing is you need some whipping cream, some condensed milk and then some sort of flavoring. We have strawberry today because that’s what we found. That works out just fine. A measuring cup, a bowl a spoon and we’ll need dry ice.
Let’s get all the ingredients together first. The spoon is the best part. About two servings is the amount we will make. Take about five ounces of whipping cream and pour it in. Now we have our condensed milk. Take about three ounces of condensed milk. Let’s talk about how yummy that looks. Don’t worry, it’s going to turn into delicious ice cream here in a minute. I have that in my coffee every morning. That’s really healthy for you. Ice cream becomes more of a treat with condensed milk. This is excellent because usually science experiments can’t give you diabetes.

I’m not saying do science experiments all the time, just on special days with the kids. Add a teaspoon of flavoring, whatever you want. Can you do mix ins, like vanilla strawberry or skittles? After you have it whipped together you can add toppings and throw some mix in.
Now you have the dry ice. Dry ice comes in a really big package like this. You don’t want to eat dry ice so you need to smash it down into a powder. The back of a hammer works really well. I have some that’s already been smashed up. It has the consistency of salt, very fine granules.
This works best with two people. I’m stirring and can’t see what I’m doing. A metal bowl actually works better than a plastic bowl. This experiment must make kids really excited because now they are making their own ice cream. The best part about it, is that you get to eat it afterward.
For me this constitutes a huge work out. I’m really earning this ice cream right now. I think I did a really good job stirring. You did a fantastic job, exceptional. If you can see really closely, my dry ice was not pounded out as thin as possible and you can see it at the bottom. We don’t want to eat those.
If you take the extra effort to pound it out completely, you won’t have this problem. Tiny piece of dry ice, more of a powder. Now, I think we both have to eat some. You have to eat what you just made. The rule is because we have some chunks, don’t eat it. Don’t eat the chunks. Science never tasted so good. This is delicious.
