Homemade Ice Cream from Scratch
Homemade ice cream from scratch is one of my fondest memories as a child. My grandparents had one of those machines that you filled with ice, put the container with your ice cream recipe in, and then a handle on top. We’d turn that handle, taking turns in the family all afternoon. Finally by evening we’d all get to dish up the best ice cream you’ve ever tasted.
Well I ran across a page online that had all this great information about ice cream including information about making it with just a freezer. You make your ice cream, put it into a shallow pan in the freezer. Then after 45 minutes you pull it out and stir it up. You do the same process every 45 minutes until it starts to hold the form. That is when you can put it into a container. It says it could be ready the same day but you might not get to indulge in this heavenly mix until the following day.
Since so many of us are watching our pennies due to the way the economy is looking maybe it’s time to pull some of these great times that we shared with our grandparents out and share it with our children or grandchildren. Making homemade ice cream from scratch is a great way to spend time with the family. Remember a lot of these fun times were created because our grandparents went through the depression and everyone had to learn how to have more fun with less.
